How to Take Deposits Online for Services and Bookings

Reserved a time for a customer, preparing a service or holding a place on a workshop? Instead of waiting until the day of the booking, you can take an agreed payment in advance and associate it with that reservation.

JustPayFor lets you prepare the payment and send it to the customer by link, email, messaging service or another convenient channel. You do not need to build a full online shop or your own payment system.

JustPayFor handles the payment connected with the booking. It is not a calendar or appointment scheduling system, so you can continue arranging dates by phone, through your own booking software or directly with the customer.

How do online deposits work?

  1. 1.

    Agree the booking

Agree the date, service and amount the customer should pay in advance.

  2. 2.

    Prepare the payment

Create the agreed payment in JustPayFor and send it to the customer.

  3. 3.

    Check the status

Information from the connected payment provider can be used to update the payment status.

Why take payment before the appointment?

A booking often means reserving a particular time, place or part of your business capacity for one customer.

If they cancel at short notice or do not attend, filling that slot again may be difficult.

Taking an agreed payment in advance can therefore form part of the booking-confirmation process and give both sides a clearer understanding of the reservation.

Which businesses can use online deposits?

Beauty and personal services

Take an agreed payment before an appointment or longer treatment.

Photographers

Collect part of the agreed price before a shoot or reserved date.

Trainers and consultants

Send payment after arranging a consultation, session or appointment.

Workshops and classes

Participants can confirm their place with an advance payment.

Bespoke services

Take payment before beginning work on a customised project or product.

Hire and reservations

Use an advance payment as part of confirming an agreed reservation.

Deposit or full payment in advance?

There is no single model that fits every service.

For a short consultation or workshop, you may prefer full payment before the booking. For a higher-value service, you may agree a smaller amount first and collect the balance later.

JustPayFor does not dictate your commercial model. You prepare the payment for the amount you have agreed with the customer.

Taking a deposit after a phone or WhatsApp booking

A booking does not need to start on your website.

The customer can call, message you on WhatsApp or Messenger, or contact you by email. Once the date and price are agreed, you prepare the payment and send them the link.

The messaging service is only used to communicate and share the link. The actual payment takes place through the payment flow handled by the connected provider.

Example: booking a photographer

A customer books a £400 photo session and you agree that £100 will be paid in advance.

After arranging the date, you prepare a £100 payment and send the customer the link. They open it on their phone and continue to payment.

The remaining £300 can then be settled according to the arrangement you have agreed with the customer.

Payment expiry dates

A reservation may only be held for a limited time.

Where appropriate, an expiry date can help prevent an old payment from being used after the availability or terms of the booking have changed.

What about cancellations?

The payment technology itself does not determine your cancellation policy.

Businesses should clearly communicate their terms for cancellations, date changes and refunds in a way that suits their service and applicable consumer requirements.

Where does the money go?

JustPayFor does not collect the customer's money and hold it for later payout.

The transaction is handled by the payment provider connected to the seller account, with funds settled according to the merchant's agreement with that provider.

How much does it cost?

£0

monthly JustPayFor fee

JustPayFor does not charge a monthly subscription or its own percentage fee on the value of each sale.

Payment provider

Transaction processing

Payment-processing costs depend on the provider connected to the seller account.
